
Allen Parrish, Ph.D.
Biography
Dr. Allen S. Parrish is a seasoned university administrator and computer scientist with over 25 years of leadership experience in research and economic development across multiple institutions. He joined the ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓÆµ in April 2025, and serves as Vice President of Research and Economic Development. He also holds a faculty appointment in computer science.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Parrish has secured over 250 grants and contracts totaling approximately $100 million, including directing multi-institutional, high-impact initiatives in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing. His work consistently bridges academic research with real-world applications in transportation, law enforcement, and public safety technology.
Dr. Parrish’s experience includes roles as the interim vice president for research and economic development at the University of Alabama from 2023 to 2024 and executive director for the Alabama Transportation Institute; he was also the founding director of the Center for Advanced Public Safety at UA.
He also served as associate vice president for research at Mississippi State University and as a professor and chair of the department of cyber science at the United States Naval Academy.
Dr. Parrish received his Bachelor of Science in computer science from the University of Tennessee, Martin. He holds a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from the Ohio State University.
